Faculty of Health Sciences successfully organized a workshop on “National and International Disaster Management Systems”, bringing together faculty members, students, and disaster management experts to strengthen understanding of disaster preparedness, response, and coordination mechanisms.
The workshop was held in the presence of Dr. Gulam, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, along with the resource person, Major General Bholanath Thapa from Western Division Headquarters, Ministry of Defence, Government of Nepal. The program was hosted by Assistant Professor Rajesh Kumar Yadav, MHI Program Coordinator, and approximately 130 participants attended, including faculty members, undergraduate, and postgraduate students from the School of Health and Allied Sciences.
During the session, Major General Thapa delivered insightful presentations on Nepal’s disaster management system, the critical role of the Nepal Army in disaster response and recovery, and the importance of national and international collaboration in managing disasters of varying scales.

Drawing upon his extensive field experience, he shared practical lessons learned from past disaster response operations and highlighted real-life case studies that illustrated effective disaster management practices. The workshop also provided a platform for meaningful interaction between participants and the resource person, fostering discussion on disaster preparedness, emergency response, coordination mechanisms, and resilience-building strategies. The event offered valuable learning opportunities by bridging theoretical concepts with practical experiences and contributed significantly to enhancing participants’ knowledge and capacity in disaster risk reduction and management.
The workshop concluded on a positive note, reaffirming the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration, preparedness, and resilience in addressing emerging disaster challenges and strengthening disaster management systems at local, national, and international levels.
