A delegation from the Republic of Korea’s Smart City & Mountain Safety Mission, led by the IBZ Co., Ltd. Consortium, visited Pokhara University on 3rd July, 2026 to discuss possibilities for academic and research collaboration.
The team was headed by Mr. Kim Soo-do, CEO of IBZ Co., Ltd., and included senior representatives Mr. James Park (CFO, IBZ Co., Ltd.), Mr. Ye Seung-bum (CEO, IBZ Travel Co., Ltd.), Mr. Kim Bu-min (Special Envoy of the Mayor of Busan), Mr. Gu Woo-hoe (Director, Disaster & Safety Center, Busan Techno Park), Prof. Dr. Park Jang-shik (Chairman, KISS Security Standards), and Mr. Noh Hee-jong (President, Disaster and Safety Association).
The delegation was warmly welcomed by the university leadership, together with the Deans of various faculties and the Executive Directors of Pokhara University. The meeting focused on areas such as smart city development, mountain safety technologies, tourism strategies, and public safety standards. Both sides expressed interest in working together on joint research projects and knowledge sharing.

The Korean representatives highlighted their expertise in investment frameworks, disaster response systems, aviation-linked tourism, and secure digital platforms through their presentations, while Pokhara University officials emphasized the importance of collaboration with international institutions to strengthen academic capacity and innovation in Nepal. Importantly, the discussion also included steps to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will formalize future collaborations and establish a long-term association between Pokhara University and the Korean institutions. In this context, the potential role of Pokhara University was also discussed, particularly in advancing applied research, supporting innovation in safety technologies, and contributing to sustainable development initiatives in the Himalayan region.
