University of Ostrava Delegation Explores Academic Partnership with Pokhara University

A two-member delegation from the University of Ostrava, Czech Republic, visited Pokhara University on May 13, 2026, to strengthen academic collaboration and explore potential areas of cooperation. Representing the Department of Human Geography and Regional Development, the delegation included Dr. Lukas Las, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of International Cooperation, and Dr. Peter Nemic. The guests were received at the university premises by Mr. Amrit Sagar Bagale, Head Assistant at the International Relations Center (IRC). They were then formally welcomed at the Office of the IRC by Executive Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deepanjal Shrestha, together with other officials and faculty members of Pokhara University.

An interactive discussion session was then followed, focusing on areas of mutual interest between the two institutions. Pokhara University was represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deepanjal Shrestha, Executive Director of IRC, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rabindra Ghimire, Executive Director of the Curriculum Development Center, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Niranjan Shrestha, Executive Director of the Research Center and senior faculty members from the School of Development and Social Engineering (SDSE), including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ajay Thapa, Assistant Prof. Dr. Arjun Thapa, and Assistant Prof. Dr. Surendra Tiwari. Likewise, administrative officials from various departments of Pokhara University, including Associate Administrator, Mr. Gobardhan Bhattarai, Information Officer, Mr. Lok Prasad Dhakal, Assistant Administrators Mr. Sunil Devkota and Ms. Sarala Bhatta Bhandari, along with Head Assistants Mr. Dilliraj Dawadi and Mr. Amrit Sagar Bagale, were also present during the meeting.

During the discussion session, Dr. Lukas Las presented an overview of Ostrava’s academic and research initiatives, highlighting strong prospects for collaboration, particularly between Ostrava’s Department of Human Geography and Regional Development and Pokhara University’s SDSE. Pokhara University representatives emphasized opportunities for joint research, faculty and student exchanges, and collaborative academic programs wherein Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ajay Thapa identified specific areas for cooperation while Asst. Prof. Dr. Arjun Thapa briefed the delegation on PhD programs and the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility Project. Likewise, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deepanjal Shrestha also provided an overview of Pokhara University with his brief presentation, noting that both institutions should work collectively to formalize their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the near future.

Following the formal session, the delegation visited the School of Development and Social Engineering to gain deeper insights into Pokhara University’s academic environment and discuss pathways for future collaboration.
