Engineering has the power to transform lives and also serve to the community. Here you will find a community of learners dedicated to addressing some of the world’s most complex engineering challenges through artificial intelligence, community development, power generation, climate protection, software development to economic stability. I have the privilege of leading this institution, a place where curiosity, compassion, and intellect combine to create breakthroughs that help us live better lives. The vision of Faculty of Science and Technology is to establish it as the preeminent center for teaching, research and entrepreneurship in the world. Today engineering education and research are in a period of extraordinary transition. Our schools and colleges are undergoing on an exciting transformation. To solve the problem in engineered manner it is required to develop such extraordinary professionals. The market based curriculum, sophisticated laboratory, field based learning, research activity, international collaboration, well qualified faculties and supportive staffs are the back bone for quality education of Pokhara University. Our engineers must address the most pressing problems facing society – problems with energy, earthquake hazard, shortage of water, shortage of hygienic food, lack of health infrastructure, and the environment degradation and do it in a sustainable, ethical, and humane way. The Faculty of Science and Technology is devoted to fulfill the need of market through quality education with technology advancement. I believe there are huge opportunities to transform the way we teach engineering through faculty exchange program, and even who we teach it. We will bring the latest educational technologies to our classrooms and build on the successes of our top ranked and executive education programs. Over the next few years we will extend our programs and expand the academic and laboratory blocks with new program extension. The masters and PhD level courses will be run from coming years. The master’s level courses on health engineering, hydropower engineering, material design and engineering, climate change, mountain engineering, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, electrical engineering are included in the strategic plan of the University and some programs has already been established. This expansion will allow us to better serve the people of Nepal and to accommodate many more of the talented applicants who seek to attend Engineering.
Our location is in beautiful city of Nepal, Pokhara, International hub for tourism, is a unique advantage. We will exploit our extraordinary location to welcome professionals and professors around the world, and to grow our international footprint.
Finally, the full promise of Faculty of Science and Technology will not be realized unless we are inclusive and diverse. We must provide the access to all women, members of underrepresented groups, and those who are socio-economically disadvantaged. For this, leadership and commitment are essential, and Pokhara University has provided such environment through student scholarship program and faculty development provision. I am very excited about the future of Engineering through Faculty of Science and Technology, and I am feeling proud with our students, faculty members, staffs, alumni and friends to lead our faculty to new heights.
