The program was hosted by Mr. Aatish Sambodhvardhan kaundaniyayan, Research Fellow of SHAS. The program started at 9:15 am with a welcome speech from Prof. Dr. Bishnu Pd Tiwari. He welcomed all the dignitaries, guest and participants of the workshop. The inaugural session was marked by speeches from Registrar of Pokhara University, Prof. Dr. Man Bdr KC, Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Indra Pd Tiwari and Vice Chancellor Prof. Khangendra Pd Bhattarai. All the speakers highlighted the importance of research and its importance for the academic institutions.  Mr. Umesh Gupta, Executive Director opened the Workshop highlighting the importance of guidelines for a research center.  This was followed by prominent presentations from Mr. ArjunThapa, coordinator and lecturer from SDSE and Mr. Deepanjal Shrestha, lecturer from ICT division of Office of The Controller of Examinations.

Mr. Thapa presented the initial background of the research activity and PURC while Mr. Shrestha presented the guideline draft of the workshop. The first session concluded after comments from Prof. Dr Harinder Thapalia, Director of Research Division UGC, Prof Dr. Ram Chandra Dhakal Executive Director of  CEDA, TU, Prof. Dr. Jeevan Bahadur Serchand Director of Research Center IOM , Mr. Ishwar Pd Khanal, Chief, Faculty of Science NAST and Sr. Scientist Dr. Bhoj Raj Pant, NAST.

The second session started after the lunch and all the participants of the workshop were divided in the three groups for finalizing the sub topics namely (I) “Research proposal and progress report format”, (II) “Proposal evaluation criteria” and (III) “Eligibility Criteria and Grant release process of the faculty research grant”. The second session concluded with presentation from Mr. Deepak Raj Paudel, Lecturer, SOB on Proposal evaluation criteria, Mr. Dipendra Yadav Deputy Controller and lecturer presented on the topic Research proposal and progress report format and finally Mr. Nam Raj Dhami presented on Eligibility criteria and grant release process of faculty research grant.  An active participation was seen from the different members of the workshop which leaded to guideline draft finalization and the theme. The workshop concluded at 6:45 pm with vote of thanks from the executive director, PURC.

As a continuation of this relationship Pokhara University invited the President of Shinawatra University Prof. Dr. Voradej Chandarasorn and his team from Sinawatra University including the Thai Ambassador to visit Pokhara University. On May 1, 2013 PU authorities: Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Deans of different faculties and Executive Director of International Centre welcomed the distinguished guests at Pokhara. During the meeting, discussions were held about the possibility of establishing a Thai Corner in the University Library. Further, the Vice Chancellor emphasized about faculty exchange and also hinted that time has come for both Management Deans office of two Universities to work out seriously to do something concrete regarding the exchange program.

On May 2, 2013 Her Excellency Thai Ambassador to Nepal Mrs. Kanthong Unakul, the President of Shinawatra University Prof. Dr. Voradej Chandarasorn and his team from Sinawatra University visited Pokhara University. The distinguished guests visited the Central Library and the chief librarian brief about the overall management of the library. Apart from this Her Excellency Thai Ambassador to Nepal Mrs. Kanthong Unakul observed the place where the Thai Corner could be established and gave a positive response regarding the establishment of the corner.

After the visit of the library, the team had a meeting in the Korean Information Access Centre where the Dean of Management Studies, Dean of Humanities and Social Science, Director of International Centre, faculties from School of Business and staffs were present. The President of Shinawatra University assured to provide two scholarship quotas for Ph.D. programs. Furthermore, the President emphasized to start faculty exchange program in the area of Finance and Accounting as soon as possible.

The Director of Admission and Development Department, Tanarat Teeratanakiat from Shinawatra University presented about Shinawatra University academic programs and its overall management. Thereafter the team had a meeting with the Vice Chancellor and Registrar of Pokhara University. The Vice Chancellor emphasized for launching a Thai Corner. Finally, the Vice Chancellor was with the opinion that two way frequent visit would be more fruitful for exploring more areas of cooperation.
